The Argentinian coral snake is a venomous snake that lives in central South America, especially the Dry Chaco region. It is large for its group, and its bright red, white and black rings make it easy to spot. Its venom is powerful, so it is important to know what it looks like and to give it plenty of room.1

Red, white and black rings run around the whole body.1
The black rings come in groups of three, called triads. There are 5 to 9 triads on the body.1
The middle black ring of each triad is wider than the black rings on either side of it.1
The white rings are narrow, about three scales wide, and the scales have black tips.1
Adults usually measure 70 to 90 cm, including the tail.1

እውነታዎች

The maximum venom yield recorded from a milked snake was 80 mg, which is eight to ten times the estimated lethal dose for an adult human.1

At 1.24 m, the largest recorded specimen is about as long as a small child is tall. This is large for the genus Micrurus.1

Males and females look alike in their scale counts. This is unusual for the genus, where the sexes often differ.1

Its colour pattern of red, white and black rings is shared by many New World coral snakes.1
