The Arabian fat-tailed scorpion is a venomous scorpion that can sting with very strong venom. It lives mainly in North Africa, the Middle East and south-western Asia, and it is one of the most feared scorpions in its range.1

Adults range in colour from light brown to reddish, blackish-brown or black.1
Adults can grow to over 10 cm long.1
It is nocturnal, hiding in crevices and under objects during the day.1
At night it hunts insects, other invertebrates and small lizards.1

Its venom is mainly made of neurotoxins, which attack the nerves, and cardiotoxins, which damage the heart. It may also contain myotoxins, which damage muscle. Local effects include intense pain, redness and swelling. Wider effects can include heart problems, internal bleeding, visual disturbance and breathing problems.1
