Datos

1

The spiders communicate by tapping their front legs on the sand. This seismic signalling is called drumming.1

2

Males may be attacked and killed by females if their drumming signal is too much like that of prey.1

3

Males can travel more than 50 metres in one night while searching for a mate.1

4

Each spider has eight eyes arranged to give a full panoramic view of its surroundings, which is unusual for spiders at night.1

5

Burrows can be up to 40 cm long and 25 cm deep, and their shape keeps them cooler than the surface.1

6

Females live about 6 months, while males live only 1 to 2 months.1

Cazamitos

Mito: It is the same spider as the wheel spider

Verdad: It is often confused with the wheel spider, but they are different species, even though they live in the same place.1
