Caterpillars shelter during the day in silken bag nests on branches, high on trunks, or at the base of their food plant. They feed on acacia (wattle) trees and Grevillea striata (beefwood). In autumn, the mature caterpillars travel in long single-file processions to find places to pupate.1

A procession can contain a hundred or more caterpillars, each one holding onto the tail hairs of the one in front.1

Caterpillars follow silk trails left by others, and if two meet on each other's trails they can walk in a circle, sometimes forming a large circular mass.1

Females cover their eggs with scales from the tuft at the end of their abdomen to protect them from predators.1
