The East African garter snake is a venomous snake that lives in parts of East Africa. It has a black body with light crossbands, and it is active at night. Its bite can cause pain and swelling, and there is no antivenom for snakes in its genus.1

The smooth, glossy scales are arranged in 13 rows at midbody.1
Adults usually measure 30 to 55 cm in total length, including the tail, and can reach about 65 cm.1
