Oft ruglað saman við: It is very similar to Phoneutria nigriventer and Phoneutria eickstedtae. Females of Perty's wandering spider have several basal grooves on a part of the reproductive structure (the epiginal lateral apophysis), while these grooves are absent in P. nigriventer. Males have a tibial pedipalp, a leg-like palp near the front, that is the longest of the three, or similar in length to the cambium, and a curved, hook-shaped tip on the emboli (the sperm-transfer structures).1
