The collared sea snake is a venomous sea snake found in the Indian Ocean. It has a slender neck and dark bands along its body. Its venom is not fully understood, so care is needed around any sea snake.1

Examination of stomach contents suggests it eats cutlassfish. The prey was partly digested, so the exact species could not be identified.1

Its venom likely contains postsynaptic neurotoxins, which attack the nerves, in the form of myotoxins, which damage muscle. This has not been confirmed. Nephrotoxins, which harm the kidneys, and cardiotoxins, which harm the heart, are also present, but they cause only secondary damage.1

かまれたら

  • Standard first aid for a suspected venomous snake bite is a pressure bandage, followed by transport to a hospital or clinic. The person should be monitored for at least 24 hours. A tourniquet, sucking at the wound, cauterising, or cutting the wound are not recommended.1
  • 圧迫固定法：かまれたところの上から、しっかりした伸びる包帯をまき、そのまま手足全体にまき上げ、添え木で固定して、助けが来るまでその人をまったく動かさないようにしよう。
