The giant Vietnamese centipede is one of the largest centipedes in its genus, Scolopendra. It lives across Mainland Southeast Asia and in several other parts of Asia. It is a bold hunter that climbs trees, which is unusual for a centipede.1

  • Usually has brownish-orange plates (tergites) on the top of each body segment.1
  • Among the largest centipedes in the genus Scolopendra, and some specimens reach or exceed 25 cm.1
  • Colour varies. Five distinct colour forms have been described, all reddish, brown or orange.1
