The flat-nosed pit viper is a venomous snake that lives in Southeast Asia. It is known for its grey, brown or red colouring and for its long, grasping tail. Its bite can cause harm, so it is important to be able to recognise it.1

Grey, brown or red on the upper body, with dark blotches or crossbars that may join to form a wavy stripe1
A light streak on each side of the head, behind the eye1
Underside powdered with dark brown, usually with rows of yellowish spots along the sides1
A prehensile tail, which means it can grip, about 9 cm long on adults1
