It is considered the world's largest spider by leg span, which can reach 30 cm.1

Female giant huntsman spiders may eat males after mating. This is more often linked with the true widows, but it is considered normal spider behaviour.1

Before this species was found, the largest known member of its family was the Australian Beregama aurea, with a body length of about 4 cm.1
