The granulated thick-tailed scorpion is a large scorpion, about 11.5 cm long, that lives in the drier parts of southern Africa. It is one of the more venomous scorpions in its region. It causes more serious stings in South Africa than any other scorpion species.1

Southern Angola, Namibia, Botswana, western Zimbabwe and South Africa (Western Cape, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape and Limpopo)1

It lives in dry country and prefers stable sandy or gritty soil. It burrows at the base of grass tufts, shrubs, logs or stones. It is sparsely spread out, but it hunts actively in the open, so people can come into contact with it.1
