The West African Gaboon viper is a venomous snake with a pair of enlarged scales on its nose that look like horns. It lives in West Africa, in countries such as Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Like all vipers, it can bite and inject venom.1

The dark triangular marking running from the eye back towards the corner of the mouth is not divided.1
Its head is broader than that of its close relative B. nasicornis.1
Overall it is somewhat larger than B. gabonica.1

자주 헷갈리는 동물: The close relative B. nasicornis also has horn-like nasal scales, but it has a brighter colour pattern and a narrower head. B. gabonica is overall somewhat smaller, and in B. g. gabonica the dark marking from the eye to the mouth is divided, which it is not in this snake.1
