The grey snake is a small venomous snake found in eastern Australia. It hunts at night, mostly for frogs. It is endangered, and scientists have seen it only a handful of times in the last 65 years.1

  • Olive to grey on the back, with a white to yellowish white belly often flecked with dark grey.1
  • In some grey snakes, the scales on the flanks are tipped with black.1
  • Juveniles have a distinctive black head, which fades or sometimes disappears as the snake matures.1
  • Adults are relatively small, with an average snout-vent length of about 50 cm. Males are slightly larger than females.1
