Hughes' saw-scaled viper is a small venomous snake. It lives only in northern Somalia, at the tip of the Horn of Africa. It grows to about 21 to 32 cm long, including its tail.1

Its colour pattern varies, but it usually has a series of pale, slanting blotches on a darker background.1
There are 24 or 25 rows of dorsal scales (scales along the back) across the middle of the body.1
