The red-spotted assassin bug is a true bug with a black body and orange or red spots on its wings. It lives in open areas across southern and eastern Africa. It is venomous, and its sting is painful, similar to a hornet's.1

It is a nocturnal predator that feeds on small invertebrates, mainly rhinoceros beetles. It uses its needle-like mouthparts to suck the juices out of its prey.1
