Yellow-faced whip snake
The yellow-faced whip snake is a thin, fast snake with large eyes that lives across most of Australia. It is venomous, but its venom is mainly used on lizards and frogs, and it is not considered dangerous to people. It is one of the most widespread snakes found only in Australia.1

Zo herken je het
- Has a narrow, yellowish head with a pale ring around each eye1
- A dark marking curves along the upper lip1
- Colour ranges from olive green to grey and brown, often with a red flush along the upper third of the back1
- Has large, prominent eyes, the largest of any Australian snake1
- Young snakes have a white-edged dark line across the snout1
Vaak verward met: It is often confused with the eastern brown snake (Pseudonaja textilis) because the two look similar. Identifying it accurately requires a clear view of the head and counting the dorsal scales at mid-body, which number 15 rows.1
Gifkracht
The venom is toxic and deadly to other reptiles and amphibians, and it slows and eventually kills the prey. The venom is not considered dangerous to humans. Some bites cause systemic symptoms such as paralysis and bleeding, along with localised pain and swelling that can range from moderate to severe.1

Als het bijt
- Medical treatment should be sought after any snake bite.1
