The Baja California rattlesnake is a pit viper that lives on the coast and islands of north-western Mexico. Like all pit vipers, it is venomous, so it should be given plenty of space. It is often found near people, especially around rubbish piles.1

It prefers desert, though in the north-west of its range it lives in chaparral, and in the Cape region it lives in pine-oak and tropical deciduous forest. It is often found in rocky areas with arid thorn scrub and cacti, and sometimes on sand dunes, and it is often attracted to human habitation, where it has been found in piles of refuse.1
