Johnny Cash tarantula

It was identified in 2015 near Folsom Prison in California.1

It is named after Johnny Cash, whose song made the prison famous.1

The singer was known as "The Man in Black", which matches the black colour of mature males.1

Females are dark brown rather than black.1

Scientists have long suspected that American tarantulas include more species than have been named, because many look so alike.1
