The lesser Asian scorpion is a yellowish scorpion found across much of Asia and in Australia. It lives in dry places with little plant cover and hunts small insects. Its sting is painful, but its venom is less potent than that of some other dangerous scorpions in its family.1

  • The back segments often have irregular black to dark brown stripes running lengthways.1

The venom contains neurotoxic proteins, which attack the nerves, and these act on ion channels, the gates that control electrical signals in cells. Stings cause intense pain, redness, swelling and a burning feeling at the site. Some people also report numbness and itching.1
