The giant Vietnamese centipede is one of the largest centipedes in its genus, Scolopendra. It lives across Mainland Southeast Asia and in several other parts of Asia. It is a bold hunter that climbs trees, which is unusual for a centipede.1

It mostly hunts smaller arthropods such as insects, spiders and vinegaroons. It has also been recorded eating small snakes and other vertebrates, including a tree frog in one observation.1

Among the largest centipedes in the genus Scolopendra, and some specimens reach or exceed 25 cm.1
Colour varies. Five distinct colour forms have been described, all reddish, brown or orange.1
