The Guatemalan beaded lizard is a venomous lizard with beaded, studded skin. It lives only in the dry forests of the Motagua Valley in southeastern Guatemala. It is the rarest beaded lizard, and fewer than 200 are believed to survive in the wild.1

Its survival may be linked to the Guatemalan spiny-tailed iguana, because that iguana's eggs are an important food source for it.1

Radiotelemetry studies in the dry forests of Zacapa, Guatemala, found an average home range of 130 ha.1
