Matilda's horned viper
Matilda's horned viper is a tree-dwelling snake that lives only in the forests of Tanzania. It has bony horn-like points above its eyes, and it was only recorded by scientists in 2011. Its exact location is kept secret to protect it from the illegal pet trade.1
Cómo reconocerlo
- It has two to three enlarged, horn-like structures above each eye.1
- It is an arboreal forest viper, so it lives in trees and bushes.1
- It can grow to a total length of 64.3 cm, which is large for a viper of its kind.1
Se confunde a menudo con: It looks most like the Usambara bush viper (Atheris ceratophora), since both have horn-like structures above the eyes. Matilda's horned viper is larger, and the largest recorded Usambara bush viper measured 51.0 cm.1
Mantente a salvo
