Its venom contains a peptide toxin, a small protein-like molecule. It activates a pain-sensing receptor in nerve cells called TRPA1, causing sharp pain and greater sensitivity to pain. It does not cause inflammation, which is the swelling and redness caused by the body's immune response.1

Eziokwu
Its venom toxin has been named the Wasabi Receptor Toxin, or WaTx.1
The toxin targets TRPA1, the same receptor that detects the spicy ingredients in mustard, onion and wasabi plants.1
In captivity it is relatively easy to keep, and it can live for 6 to 10 years.1
It is one of the scorpion species most commonly seen for sale in Australian pet shops.1
