The eastern shovel-nosed snake is a small snake found only in Australia. It has a blunt, upturned nose that it uses for burrowing, and it spends much of its time hidden under rocks, logs and leaf litter. It is considered venomous but is virtually harmless to people.1

  • Small snake with a pink, orange or reddish-brown back1
  • Irregular narrow cream cross-bands with dark edges on the back1
  • Two large dark bands, one across the head and one across the nape (back of the neck)1
  • Whitish underside1
  • Blunt, upturned snout1

よくまちがえられるのは： The closely related Brachyurophis fasciolatus also lives in New South Wales. In this species the nasal and preocular scales (on the snout) touch and the snout is more pointed. In the other species these scales are separated and the snout looks more rounded.1
