Hairy legs, with an oval abdomen up to 10 cm across.1
Leg span can reach 20 cm.1
Small, weak eyes that can only judge light levels.1

よくまちがえられるのは： Many hairy tarantulas from North and South America can shed urticating hairs, which are barbed and can cause severe itching. This species is an Old World tarantula and does not have these hairs on its abdomen.1

データ

It is one of the only spiders known to swim, and it will sometimes dive to catch fish.1

Most spiderlings kill each other for food, but some have been found sharing food with their siblings.1

Its fangs point downwards and work like pickaxes rather than pincers.1

During a moult it lies on its back, weak and dehydrated, and is very vulnerable to animals that would normally be its prey.1

After moulting it avoids eating for about a week so its new fangs can harden.1

It does not spin webs. It spins only a little silk, used for egg sacs and to line its burrows.1
