名前について： Taenianotus combines the Latin 'taenia', a narrow flat band, with the Greek 'notus', meaning back, for its long fin. The species name triacanthus means 'three spines', although the fish actually has only two spines on its cheek.1

The leaf scorpionfish is a flat, leaf-shaped fish that looks like a dead leaf drifting in the water. It lives on tropical coral reefs across the Indo-Pacific. It is special because it hides in plain sight and waits for its prey to come close.1

It is an ambush predator. It waits until a small fish or shrimp comes close, then moves in slowly with its pectoral fins and opens its mouth suddenly to suck the prey in. It eats small crustaceans, fishes and larvae.1

It is almost as flat as a leaf.1
Its colour varies from green, red, pink, brown, ocher and yellowish to ghostly white.1
A dark line runs through its eyes.1
Its large dorsal fin starts just behind the eyes and has 12 spines.1
Its skin often has blotches, and sometimes algae and hydroids grow on it.1
