The weedy scorpionfish is a marine fish with a body covered in weed-like, fleshy tentacles. It lives on the seabed in the Indian and Western Pacific Oceans, usually at depths of 13 to 90 metres. It is rare in the wild and highly prized by aquarium keepers.1

It lives on the bottom of the sea, at depths of 13 to 90 metres. It moves along the seabed using its fins and rarely swims. Most people meet it through the aquarium trade rather than in the wild.1

Highly compressed (flattened from side to side) body covered in weed-like, fleshy tentacles1
Between 9 and 24 tentacles on the lower jaw, with more tentacles below the eyes and along the flanks1
Colour is very variable, but all individuals have numerous circular, dark-margined spots1
Two small black spots on the soft-rayed part of the dorsal fin1
