The western bush viper is a venomous snake that lives in the forests of West Africa. It spends much of its time up in bushes and trees, where its bright green colour helps it blend in. It matters because its venom can cause life-threatening harm, and there is no antivenom for it.1

Adults are a uniform light green, with faint yellow, roughly paired spots running along the back, about 2.5 cm apart.1
The belly is pale green.1
The body is relatively slender and the tail is relatively long.1
The dorsal scales are heavily keeled, with a swelling at the end of each scale.1
Young snakes under 25 cm long are tan-brown when born, turning yellow-green with irregular dark spots within 24 hours.1
