The green night adder is a venomous snake that lives in parts of tropical Africa. It is bright green to olive in colour, with dark chevron-shaped bands along its back. Despite its name, it is mostly active in daylight.1

Tropical Africa, from Nigeria east to Sudan and Ethiopia, south to Tanzania and DR Congo. Isolated population in western Angola.1

It also lives in man-made places such as abandoned quarries, sugar cane plantations and pools beside roads. It has been found from sea level up to 1,800 m.1
