The Pantanal coral snake is a venomous snake from central South America. It is large for its group, and its red, white and black rings warn that it is a member of the coral snake family. It lives in wetland and savanna areas in western Brazil and northern Paraguay.1

The black rings come in groups of three (triads), with a wider black ring in the middle of each group.1
The top of the head is black, and each head shield is outlined in white.1
A red band, 5 to 9 scales wide, sits just behind the head.1

It is large for its genus and can grow to more than one metre long, tail included.1
