The red-headed mouse spider is a burrowing spider found across mainland Australia. It lives in open forest and desert shrubland, and the male has a bright red head. It is a venomous spider that people meet in the wild, so it helps to know what it looks like.1

Females are about 35 mm long, stout and short-legged, and mostly dark brown to black. Their jaws are sometimes red-tinged.1
Males are about 15 mm long, with longer, thinner legs. The head and jaws are bright red.1
The male's abdomen (rear body) is gunmetal blue to black.1
