The striped poison-fang blenny is a small, stout fish from the western Pacific Ocean. It has large fangs in its lower jaw and a venom that scientists are studying as a possible new painkiller for people. It sometimes turns up in the aquarium trade.1

It contains a neuropeptide also found in cone snail venom, a lipase similar to one in some scorpion venoms, and an opioid peptide. The venom lowers the blood pressure of a predator, which relaxes its jaws so the blenny can escape.1
