Spiny-tailed monitor
The spiny-tailed monitor is a lizard from northern and western Australia. It lives among dry, rocky hills and is known for its round tail covered in spiny scales. It is a small monitor, and it hides in rock cracks and burrows during the day.1

Zo herken je het
- Upper side is a rich, dark brown with bright yellowish to cream spots, which often enclose a few dark scales1
- Tail is round in section and has very spiny scales1
- Tail is about 1.3 to 2.3 times as long as the head and body combined1
- Pale longitudinal stripes run along the neck1
- Has 70 to 115 scales around the middle of the body1
Vaak verward met: It is similar to V. baritji and V. primordius. The spiny-tailed monitor can be told apart by the pale stripes on its neck, which those two species do not have.1
