Heteropoda venatoria is a large, flat spider that hunts its prey instead of catching it in a web. It lives in tropical regions around the world and is often found in houses, barns and sheds. Its bite is painful, but it is not considered dangerous.1

It commonly lives in houses and other structures such as barns and sheds, especially where the weather is cold. It is sensitive to cold and can live outdoors only in warmer climates. In some tropical areas it is considered a useful household resident because it eats many pest insects.1
