The nomad jellyfish is a jellyfish that lives in warm tropical seas of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It has also spread into the eastern Mediterranean Sea, where it forms huge swarms in summer. Its stings are very painful, so it matters to swimmers and beach managers.1

It lives in tropical warm waters and, since the 1970s, in the eastern Mediterranean. It forms large swarms in the summertime, and these swarms can block seawater intake systems used by seawater-cooled power plants.1

It has long, thread-like filaments called vermicular filaments on its mouth arms, covered in venomous stinging cells. These stinging cells can release venom when they touch skin. The sting causes very painful injuries.1
