Red-legged purseweb spider
The red-legged purseweb spider is a large, strong-looking spider that lives in the southern and eastern United States. It builds a silk tunnel against a tree or other surface and waits inside for prey to land on it. Its long life, up to 7 years, is unusual for a spider.1

Ni ngay ko xàmmee
- The body is solid and strong-looking, reddish-brown to black.1
- Males have long red or red-orange legs from the femora downwards.1
- Females have legs the same colour as the body.1
- Females reach a body length of about 25 mm, just under an inch, including the chelicerae. Males are smaller, at about 15 mm.1
- Like other mygalomorph spiders, the fangs point straight down rather than crossing.1
