The spiny oak slug is the caterpillar of a moth in the family Limacodidae. It lives on deciduous trees and shrubs across the eastern United States, and its spiny body can cause painful skin reactions, so it is worth knowing well.1

怎麼認出牠

  • Usually yellowish green, with bright red, square markings on the back, though orange forms are also common.1
  • The body is flattened and oval in outline, with spiny bumps along the back and sides.1
  • The sides have craters ringed with black or white.1
  • Maximum length is about 2 cm.1

常被誤認為： Caterpillars are often confused with other caterpillars in the same genus, particularly Parasa species. The adult moths are the easiest to tell apart: Parasa has a larger green patch on its forewings, while Euclea delphinii has a brown thorax, where Parasa has a green one.1
