The East African garter snake is a venomous snake that lives in parts of East Africa. It has a black body with light crossbands, and it is active at night. Its bite can cause pain and swelling, and there is no antivenom for snakes in its genus.1

  • Adults usually measure 30 to 55 cm in total length, including the tail, and can reach about 65 cm.1

  • It is active at night and moves on the ground.1
