The white-spotted assassin bug is a venomous true bug from tropical Africa. It hunts insects and other small creatures, and it can give a bite that is more painful than a bee sting. It lives in damp tropical forests, often in hollow tree stumps and rotting logs.1

It hunts cockroaches, crickets, flies, darkling beetles and caterpillars. It pierces the prey's outer shell, injects saliva that liquefies the tissues inside, and then sucks out the digested fluids.1

1

It hunts a wide range of insects, including cockroaches, flies and caterpillars.1

2

It has needle-like mouthparts, built for sucking fluids rather than chewing.1

3

It does not go through metamorphosis, so young nymphs look like small adults.1

4

It takes six to nine weeks to develop from egg to adult.1

Bonnoowo fenaandeeji

Fenaande: Females can breed without mating, through parthenogenesis.

Goonga: This was once thought to be true but has recently been shown not to be. Unmated females lay eggs, but the eggs are infertile.1
