Speckled brown snake
The speckled brown snake is a venomous snake that lives in parts of northeastern Australia. Its venom is strong, so it is important to know what it looks like and to keep well away from any snake you see. It belongs to the brown snake group, which includes some of Australia's best-known venomous snakes.1

Humpito
A 2016 genetic analysis showed that the speckled brown snake is an early offshoot of the lineage that gave rise to the taipans, rather than of the other brown snakes.1
The curl snake (Suta suta) has been reported preying on speckled brown snakes at Goyder Lagoon in South Australia.1
It grows to about 1.4 metres long, which is one of the largest sizes in its group.1
