The red-headed poison frog is a small frog with a bright front half and a dark back half. It lives only in the wet forests of northern Peru. It is poisonous rather than venomous, and it is listed as vulnerable to extinction.1

The head and front of the body are bright yellow with a white border.1
Some frogs have a red, orange or yellow front instead of bright yellow.1
The back half is mostly black with grey net-like markings.1
The adult is about 2 to 2.5 cm from snout to vent.1
