Haddon's sea anemone is a large, colourful sea anemone that lives on sandy sea floors in warm waters. It is a host for several kinds of clownfish, which shelter among its tentacles. In Thailand it is also known as a food, even though it is protected there.1

It gets energy in two ways. Symbiotic algae (zooxanthellae) living in its tissues carry out photosynthesis, and its tentacles capture small invertebrates, fry and juvenile fish, immobilising them with toxins.1

Its folded oral disc can reach 50–80 cm across.1
A tentacle-free area of 1–2 cm surrounds the mouth.1
The tentacles are yellowish or tan, with tips that are green, yellow or grey, and rarely blue or pink.1
Short and long tentacles alternate around the edge of the disc.1
The column is usually the same colour as the body, so its small bumps are hard to see.1
