The Guatemalan beaded lizard is a venomous lizard with beaded, studded skin. It lives only in the dry forests of the Motagua Valley in southeastern Guatemala. It is the rarest beaded lizard, and fewer than 200 are believed to survive in the wild.1

It lives in dry forests and in arroyos (dry stream channels) with many dove and parakeet nests in low trees. Its home range is part of the Motagua Valley thornscrub ecoregion.1

Its main food is the eggs of doves and parakeets, which nest low in trees in the arroyos. It also eats insects such as beetles and crickets, and it eats the eggs of the Guatemalan spiny-tailed iguana.1
