The lacy scorpionfish is a small, strange-looking reef fish that lies still on the seabed and looks like weed or sponge. It lives in the western Pacific, and it is rare. Its camouflage makes it hard to spot, even for divers.1

Long, branched tentacles grow on the supraocular and rear lacrimal spines.1
Adults have 16 or 17 pectoral-fin rays.1

Instead of swimming, it moves by "walking" and "hopping", powered by its pelvic and pectoral fins.1
