The round ribbontail ray is a large stingray that lives in warm, shallow seas across the Indo-Pacific, from South Africa to Japan and Australia. It can grow to 1.8 m across, and it is valued by divers for its size and striking look. It has a venomous tail spine, so it is one to admire from a distance.1

ሓቅታት

It is one of the largest stingray species, reaching 150 kg in weight.1

Females can be pursued by dozens of males during reproductive gatherings, which have been seen in groups of hundreds at Cocos Island.1

Smaller fishes such as jacks and cobia often follow it, feeding on food stirred up by its movements or sheltering behind its body.1

It is mostly active at night and rests motionless during the day, often in caves or under ledges.1
