Trechona venosa is a large spider from the Atlantic Forest of Brazil, in South America. It is a funnel-web spider with a black or brownish-grey body and yellow stripes on its abdomen. It is not aggressive, and it is rarely met by people because it lives far from houses.1

The venom is strong enough to kill laboratory animals. In rats, a dose of 2 mg by muscle injection causes muscle contractions, paralysis and death.
