The southern devil scorpion is a small, dark scorpion from the southeastern United States. It hides under logs, stones and tree bark, and it often finds its way into houses. It can be common where its woodland habitat is good.1

It is a predator of smaller arthropods and eats a wide range of prey. It favours soft-bodied prey when available. In captivity it accepts termites, mealworms and crickets, even prey as large as itself or larger.1
