The southern fire ant is a small ant that can sting. It lives in the southern parts of the United States, from the Carolinas to California. It is one of several fire ants that share the same land, and it is found over a wider area than its relatives.1

常被誤認為： It behaves much like the red imported fire ant (S. invicta), which lives in the same range, as do the golden fire ant (S. aurea) and S. amblychila. The southern fire ant has the widest spread of these four species.1
