Stokes' sea snake is a large, heavy snake that lives in the sea. It is one of the heaviest sea snakes, and it has the longest fangs of any marine snake. It lives in tropical waters from India to the South China Sea, and in the warm seas around northern Australia.1

It is one of the heaviest and stoutest sea snakes.1
Its colour varies widely, from cream to brown to black.1
It often has broad black cross bands across the back, or black rings.1
Its belly has an enlarged ridge, called a keel, which is often broken into two wart-like bumps.1
It can reach a total length of 1.5 metres.1

No human deaths have been reported as caused by Stokes' sea snake. Its fangs are long enough to pierce a wetsuit.1
