The giant huntsman spider is a very large spider with a leg span of up to 30 cm, making it the world's largest spider by leg span. It lives in Laos, where it is thought to be a cave dweller. Scientists first described it in 2001.1

Before this species was found, the largest known member of its family was the Australian Beregama aurea, with a body length of about 4 cm.1
